SAPCR (Suit Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship) is an action brought to address custody, visitation or support issues with regard to a child and its parents. Many times nowadays an Acknowledgement of Paternity form (AOP) is given to parents at the hospital when the child is born. A valid Acknowledgment of Paternity will establish the legal relationship between dad and child without the formal filing of a paternity action. While the legal relationship is established, there is no document that sets out custody, visitation or support for the child. The action filed in court to address these issues while be a Suit Affecting the Parent-Child Relationship (SAPCR) rather than a paternity since paternity was established through the AOP form.
