about me: educationallyBorn and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. I'm a 1987 graduate of W. B. Ray High School. I obtained my Associates degree in Legal Assisting from Del Mar College in 1991. I practiced as a paralegal for five years before deciding to return to college and ultimately law school. I graduated with honors from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 1999 with a Bachelors degree in Political Science. I graduated with my Juris Doctorate from St. Mary's University School of Law in the spring of 2002. I passed the bar in the fall of 2002 and became a licensed attorney on November 6, 2002.
ABOUT ME: PROFESSIONALLYI started my professional career working at a civil defense law firm (the people that defend businesses, corporations and insurance companies). I was there six months when I decided to pursue my dream of opening my own law office. In 2003 I opened the Law Office of Deborah K. Rios where I primarily practiced family law, probate, wills & estates, and personal injury. In 2005-2006 I worked as in-house counsel for a physician that had several medical practices. I returned to private practice in 2007 and expanded into criminal law. From 2010-2012 I was hired as an assistant attorney general in the Child Support Division of the Office of the Attorney General prosecuting child support enforcement cases as well as paternities and modifications. In the summer of 2012 I returned to private practice where I narrowed my law practice to focus on criminal law and family law.
ABOUT ME: PERSONALLYI am married to my best friend, Anna Lopez. I have a 18 year old step son (Josh), a rescue dog (Justice) and two kittens (Diego & Isabella). I am immensely blessed. I am a proud member of the LGBTQ community and I work tirelessly to ensure that we achieve the American dream of equality for all.
